The Dinner Where Everything Broke

The Dinner Where Everything Broke

That faint blue glow suddenly felt much brighter in my memory.

Patrick shook his head. “You had no right—”

“I had every right,” my father cut in, still composed. “Especially after hearing that it was transferred without her consent.”

Patrick scoffed, but it sounded hollow now. “It’s just a car.”

My father tilted his head slightly. “Then it shouldn’t be a problem returning it.”

That’s when it hit him.

Fully.

Whatever confidence he walked in with—it was gone.

“What did you do?” Patrick asked, his voice lower now.

My father met his gaze.

“I reported it,” he said simply.

The words landed like a dropped glass.

Patrick blinked. “You’re joking.”

“I’m not.”

Another silence.

Heavy this time.

Irreversible.
