Stop throwing away dryer lint! Here are 10 ingenious tips for using it around the house.

I used to throw it away without thinking.

That soft, gray clump you peel out of the dryer filter? Straight into the trash. Every time. It felt like the most useless thing in the house—dusty, lifeless, forgettable.

Until one night, the power went out.

It wasn’t unusual at first. Just a storm rolling through, wind pressing against the windows, lights flickering before everything went dark. I lit a candle, grabbed my phone, and waited it out. But hours passed… and the silence started to feel heavier than it should.

That’s when I remembered something I’d read earlier that week:

“Stop throwing away dryer lint. It’s more useful than you think.”

I had laughed at it at the time. But now, sitting in the dark, I figured… why not?

I went to the laundry room and pulled open the dryer. The lint trap was full—soft, dense, almost like felt. I packed some into a small jar, struck a match, and watched it catch instantly.

Tip #1: Fire starter.
And yeah… it worked too well.

The flame flared higher than expected, quick and hungry, like it had been waiting. I smothered it with the lid, a little startled, but impressed.

Over the next few days, I started experimenting.

Tip #2: Stuffing. I used it to fill a small cushion—cheap, easy, surprisingly comfortable.
Tip #3: Cleaning. It picked up dust from corners better than any cloth I had.
Tip #4: Kindling backup. I kept a jar of it near the candles, just in case.
