Despite the demanding work, he never allowed their home to feel empty. He packed her lunches every day, helped her with homework after late shifts, and even taught himself small things—like how to braid her hair—simply because it made her smile. Money was often tight, but he always reminded her that honest work carried dignity and that a person’s character mattered far more than anyone’s job title.
Sometimes students teased her when they realized her father worked at the school. Whenever that happened, he would gently remind her that kindness and hard work were things no one could ever take away.
Everything changed during her junior year.
Her father became seriously ill, and the months that followed were filled with hospital visits and quiet worries about the future. Even as his health grew worse, he spoke often about the milestones he hoped to see her reach—graduation, college, and especially prom.
